Protein-rich oatmeal porridge

2 min read

If you had asked me three years ago if I would ever eat porridge again, I would have said no. I was never an extremist, but when I was on my low-carb diet, the truth is I ended up avoiding many (too many) carbohydrates that I didn't know I needed – I'll talk about this in a podcast episode one day.

Oatmeal can be an ally for those who lead an active life and are concerned with training, gaining or maintaining lean muscle mass.

Anyone familiar with my books knows my love for oatmeal, which, although dormant for a while, has returned and is even more nutritious than ever. There's an ingredient I've started adding to my recipes, and now I feel it's going to be a lifelong love.

What's the ingredient? you ask. Egg white! Yes! It may seem strange, but I promise you'll be surprised! Besides providing a great source of protein to the porridge and keeping you full, it gives it a wonderful texture!

The base of the recipe is always the same, and then it's just a matter of using your imagination for the toppings!

Ingredients for 1 person

150g Rolled oats (preferably instant) Buy here

1/2 cup of water

100ml of egg white

Suggested toppings (but you can choose your own)

Banana

Peanut butter powder (contains far fewer calories and is just as delicious!) Buy it here

Ground cinnamon

Preparation

Heat the water in a frying pan or small saucepan, add the oats and mix for a few minutes or until it forms a paste. Add the egg whites and stir quickly until the consistency thickens - you can use a whisk to help achieve a fluffier consistency.

Place in a bowl and add the toppings.
